Whirlwinds of Change!
May 17, 2014
April was quite a busy birthday month for Helen. She carted me around to different places and performances.
I started off the month with a bang by finishing off March by debuting at Temple of the Virgins with the Golden Throat of Burlesque herself, Broadway Brassy (BroadwayBrassyNYC.com). This was a fabulous show and it takes a place in a Mexican restaurant called La Flaca on the Lower East Side of Manhattan!!! Boobs and beans!!! Great combination in my opinion)
Next, Helen and I completed our training to become a Self-Defense instructor for the Center of Anti-Violence Education. (www.cae.org) Brenda has been a great inspiration to me. Her spirit is real and shines through. We will begin assisting classes this month! Time to spread the anti-violence love to Teens! J
During this month, we started Pole Dancing…. This was a wonderful discovery! Pole dancing is quite addictive and empowering. I have bruises all over my legs but could not be happier. (www.nypoledancing.com)
Helen’s bank account however is running a little low and unemployment is looming over our head. There was an interview at my favorite sex toy shop. Please cross your fingers that they contact me soon to start training!!! (www.babeland.com)
In the middle of the month, I travelled to DC for a week and spent time catching up with some old friends. It was bitter sweet. Helen and her ex caught up a little too much haha. Oh well, they are now currently talk and fight and get upset with each other and then stop talking. It’s really quite a balance to the struggle Helen has to put up to find a job. So not so much fun for Helen, but struggle only makes us stronger right?
No, but we will make do.
At the end of the month, I was introduced to the Bureau of General Services: Queer Division, (bgsqd.com/) which is a fabulous establishment, reminded me of Blue Stockings but more diverse in the gender variety. I donated a performance to the Queer Detainee Project’s fundraiser Queers Got Talent! It was a great crowd and loved every moment. Met the fabulous Teresa, Drae and Elsa, wonderful people and performers. Not to mention HILARIOUS!!
I had a fabulous opportunity to model for David L. Byrd with so many pretty ladies. (davidlawrencebyrd.com) That same day I went to CAE’s Prom fundraiser AND performed for the second time at Kitty Nights NYC with an inspiration to me, Fem Appeal! She truly rocks my socks and was one of the first people to book me in NYC. (www.kittynights.com/nyc.html)
And to finish off the crappy part of Helen’s, she was told “not to come back” to her Gym job… Freeing and paralyzingly anxiety building at the same time!
Now I can get a the facial piercing I have always wanted… BUT job first! Wish us luck!
So this has been another whirlwind and stay tuned for next month’s installment of Velvet Dishes on Helen (and Velvet) ;)
